About NT Partners in Recovery

Partners in Recovery helps people living with a mental illness to access the services they need for their recovery

man-with-outstretched-armsPartners in Recovery is funded by the Department of Health to support individuals, their families and carers in their recovery by getting multiple services to work together in a more coordinated and integrated way. Partners in Recovery brings together a range of agencies across the mental health, general health, housing, employment and training, and drug and alcohol sectors within each region to coordinate the services and supports that assist participant recovery. Limited flexible funding is also available to provide short term services and supports for participants.

Partners in Recovery also has a broader reform agenda to improve overall care coordination, regional service provision and systemic advocacy across the Northern Territory through developing stronger cross-sectoral partnerships.

Partners in Recovery in the Northern Territory

As the lead agency for NT Partners in Recovery, the Northern Territory PHN has engaged four organisations (PIR Providers) across the NT to support PIR participants, and provide care coordination when the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is rolled out in each region. The Northern Territory PHN’s role is to contract and support PIR Providers, and facilitate the transition from PIR to the NDIS through strategic engagement and collaboration with the relevant stakeholders.

Partners in Recovery is assisting eligible PIR participants transition to receive support from the National Disability Insurance Scheme

The Partners in Recovery program is transitioning to the NDIS as each region in the NT obtains access to the NDIS, commencing with the Barkly region from July 2016, East Arnhem region in January 2017, and all other regions by July 2019. The managed transition to the NDIS will involve:

  • Assisting participants to register for the NDIS, and continuing support for those that are ineligible
  • Providing care coordination for participants once they obtain an NDIS support package
  • Facilitating continuity of care arrangements as the transition to the NDIS from PIR is completed in each region
